The Casual Vacancy

J.K. Rowling's latest book, "The Casual Vacancy", is scheduled to be released on Thursday, September 27th, 2012.

Synopsis:
When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils...Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.

Title of J.K. Rowling's Latest Project Announced

Apr 08 2012 12:31 AM | madmaxime in Articles

A little over a month ago it was announced that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling would write an adult novel due out later this year. And while we still don't have a concrete release date, we now have a title.

Lairs of Lady Po

The full image depicts the printed title of the book with the author's name on an old-fashioned type-writer and blood spattered in the upper-left hand corner of the page.
From the press release issued from Little, Brown & Company:

"It has become tradition for Ms. Rowling when announcing her projects to always have a bit of mystery at the onset.'Lairs of Lady Po' is no different. We look forward to seeing how her fans react to the image."
What do you think it all means? Given the blood, has Rowling penned her first horror/mystery novel? Let the speculation begin!

J.K. Rowling to Publish First Adult Novel

Mar 19 2012 05:39 PM | madmaxime in Articles

J.K. Rowling has inked a deal with Little, Brown Book Group and Little, Brown and Company to publish her first novel for adults. The publisher did not reveal the title or publication date, but the novel will be published in print and eBook formats.

Little, Brown Book Group publisher David Shelley will edit and publish for UK readers and Little, Brown and Company executive vice president Michael Pietsch will publish in the United States.

Rowling had this statement in the release: “Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”

Harry Potter studio tour: detailed Hogwarts model to be 'grand finale'

Mar 07 2012 12:32 AM | Ratbert in Articles

An intricate scale model of the Hogwarts castle from the Harry Potter films has been shown to the public for the first time.

The design and special effects employed in the Harry Potter films will go down as a benchmark in British filmmaking. So it stands as a great testament to the wizarding academy of Hogwarts, a turreted gothic castle, that the films' Art Department have named this model as their "jewel".

This 1:24 scale model, with details taken from the original sets at Alnwick Castle and Durham Cathedral, will be the final trump card played at the end of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, which opens this month.

It took 86 artists and crew members to construct the first version which was then rebuilt and altered many times for the next seven films.

The work was so extensive that if one was to add all the man hours that have gone into building and reworking the model, it would come to over 74 years.
